Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah while presiding over a meeting on Cyclone Emergency at the Chief Minister’s House on Saturday declared a state of emergency in all the districts along the coast to deal with any untoward situation and take precautionary measures. 

The Chief Minister directed that a control room should be set up in the office of the Chief Secretary and close links should be established with all the districts and necessary instructions should be issued to them by the Government of Sindh.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Rehabilitation Faraz Dero, Advisor Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Mumtaz Shah, Senior Member Board of Revenue Alumuddin Blue, ACS Home Usman Chachar, Commissioner Karachi Naveed Sheikh, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Sindh Sajid Jamal Abro, Secretary Finance. Hassan Naqvi, Administrator Karachi Laiq Ahmed, Commander Corps Engineering Brigadier Qazi Nasir, Director Met Office Sarfraz, DGP DMA Salman Shah and Minister for Irrigation Sohail Anwar Sial and Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Shah participated through video link. 

Briefing the Sindh Chief Minister, Director Pakistan Meteorological Department Sardar Sarfraz said that a weather system is being developed in the south of the Arabian Sea, which usually has three effects. 

Including heavy rains, thundershowers, strong winds and storm surges, the main cause of tropical cyclones is hot water in the tropical region, sea level before the hurricane is usually 26 degrees, in Pakistan and South Asia. The cause of the cyclone is disturbance.

The Chief Minister Sindh was informed that there are two possible cyclone tracks. If the cyclone crosses Gujarat of India, it will affect Thatta, Badin, Mirpur Khas, Tharparkar, Umerkot and Sanghar districts.

Thatta, Badin and Mirpur Khas are likely to receive 70 to 90 mm, Umerkot 80 to 100 mm and Tharparkar 230 to 250 mm of heavy rainfall. It will affect Karachi, Hub, Lasbela, Hyderabad and Jamshoro districts. 

60 to 80 mm of rain in Karachi, 30 to 50 mm in Hyderabad, 150-170 mm in Jamshoro, 180 to 200 mm in Dadu, 80 to 100 mm in Bela and Sukkur and 60 to 80 mm in Jacobabad. Is. 

DGP DMA Salman Shah informed the meeting that the wind pressure is increasing towards the southeastern Arabian Sea in a strong cyclonic storm ‘Tokte’ and on 15th May 2021 at 0800 PST at longitude 12.7N and latitude 72.3. E, located about 1460 km south. 

Maximum strong winds around southeastern Karachi can blow at 120 kmph or 110-90 kmph in the system center.

Over the next 18-12 hours, the system is likely to intensify the Cyclone Storm (SCS) and move northwest and reach Indian Gujarat by the morning of May 18. 

Under the influence of this system from 17th May to 20th May 2021, in Thatta, Badin, Thar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and Sanghar districts with strong winds blowing at a speed of 100-80 kmph with heavy dust / thunder showers. It is possible.

On the other hand, keeping in view the situation presented by the Met Office and PDMA, Chief Minister Sindh Directed the administration in Karachi to clear the choking points of drains.

He directed Commissioner Karachi Naveed Sheikh and Administrator KMC Laiq Ahmed to remove all billboards, new sign boards and instruct builders to take precautionary measures to protect the buildings under construction. 

He directed the PDSMA to provide dewatering machines, generators to the district administration in the city and other districts as per their requirement. Murad Ali Shah directed the fishermen to start fishing from tomorrow. Meanwhile, in view of the arrival of “heatwave and hurricane”, Administrator Karachi Laiq Ahmed declared an emergency in various departments of the Karachi Metropolitan Municipality till Thursday, May 20. The administrator also visited various storm drains in the city in the wake of the expected hurricane on Saturday. 

He directed that full presence of doctors and paramedical staff should be ensured in all the hospitals, while emergency would also be maintained in fire brigade, rescue unit, city wardens, horticulture department and municipal services department. 

He appealed to the citizens to take precautionary measures, the temperature in Karachi is likely to rise in the next 3 days, so the citizens should prefer to stay indoors during these days, as there is a possibility of strong winds and rain and strong winds. There is also a possibility of roofs flying, signboards collapsing, mud structures collapsing, so citizens should take precautions, stay away from power lines and signboards.

Avoid touching electrical appliances and power poles, especially during rains, use more water on hot days, avoid the sun and go to the hospital immediately in case of dehydration, all officers and employees feel their responsibilities In case of rains, every possible effort will be made to complete the drainage process as soon as possible and remove the standing water safely. 

Pakistan Railways has set up three control rooms in Karachi Division in view of the threat of hurricane “Tokte”. Emergency duties have been imposed from May 20 to 2021. A notification has also been issued in this regard. The control room can be contacted on 9200114.
